active reading pg 13

1. Powell wanted to expressed how hard it was to come up from what he went through, his unfair advantages and racism. He wanted to make his audience know that it was not easy and he did have to work hard to achieve. I believe he wanted to inspire all the people that think they can't do it because of what they have or their disadvantages.
2. I think he wanted to effect the people that don't have a lot growing up and hardships, in a way to motivate them.
3. The tone of the writer is endurance, and motivation. Never having the will to quit but the will to keep fighting, and that is why Colin Powell is a great man. My respect for him is a great respect because he showed many people how to not quit.
