journal entry #4

What does Bartholomae mean when he says that students must "invent the university" when they write in college?

Bartholomae means that students should be greatly involved in what they do at school and they should know everything by the time you graduate.

What does Bartholomae suggest is a way for students to become "insiders" within academic discourse?

He feels students should write what they are thinking about or feeling because as a student they have the right to. They should take that right and take the chance and write what they feel.

Summarize some of the differences between the two examples of student writing that Bartholomae examines, and Bartholomae's opinion of these examples.

the difference between the two he examines is that one gets straight to the point and the other goes more into depth. His opinion of the first one is that its does what is ask but has no feeling or life but the other one you can feel the author opinions while you read.
